Espíritu Santo is Vanuatu's largest island and the country's signature wreck-diving destination. The main dive cluster sits around Luganville, Segond Channel, Aore Island and Million Dollar Point on the island's southeast coast. The destination combines world-scale WWII wrecks including the SS President Coolidge (a 200m troopship), Million Dollar Point's underwater equipment museum, USS Tucker, coastal trader wrecks, protected channel reefs like Aore Wall and Cindy's Reef, and outer island reefs and walls at Bokissa, Tutuba and Araki with caves, swim-throughs and occasional pelagics.

| Month | Summary |
|---|---|
| Jan | Warmest month at 27-28°C with 12-25m visibility. Wet/cyclone season in full swing; schedule flexibility needed. Protected Coolidge wreck often still diveable despite weather. |
| Feb | Similar to January: 27-28°C, 12-25m visibility, high cyclone risk. Wet season conditions with humid air and frequent rain. |
| Mar | 27-28°C with 12-25m visibility. Wet season easing late March but tropical lows still possible. Monitor weather forecasts closely. |
| Apr | 26-28°C, 15-30m visibility. Shoulder month improving toward dry season. Good value transition month with improving conditions. |
| May | 25-27°C, 18-35m visibility. Dry season begins with reliable reef and wreck diving. Excellent all-around conditions. |
| Jun | 24-26°C, 20-35m visibility. Dry and settled weather. Peak visibility window begins; cooler water makes 5mm wetsuits useful for deep wreck dives. |
| Jul | 24-26°C, 20-35m visibility. Dry and settled. Often the coolest water of the year; ideal for long deep Coolidge dives with proper thermal protection. |
| Aug | 24-26°C, 20-35m visibility. Dry and settled. Often the coolest month; peak visibility with calm seas. |
| Sep | 24-26°C, 20-35m visibility. Dry and settled. Strong all-around month — excellent conditions for wrecks and reefs alike. |
| Oct | 25-27°C, 18-35m visibility. Shoulder month with warmer water returning. Usually still good seas as dry season winds down. |
| Nov | 26-28°C, 15-30m visibility. Early wet season begins. Still workable diving but storm risk rises toward month end. |
| Dec | 27-28°C, 12-25m visibility. Wet season with more rain and reduced offshore dive reliability. Shore-access wrecks like Coolidge remain options. |

Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin
Destination note
Pods are possible on boat rides between Luganville, Aore and outer reef sites; underwater encounters are opportunistic.

Green Sea Turtle
Destination note
Seen around seagrass, reef flats and calm coral gardens during Santo reef days.

Hawksbill Turtle
Destination note
Likely on coral gardens where sponges grow; less common than green turtles but a classic reef encounter.

Great Barracuda
Destination note
Research sources mention barracuda; solitary adults are plausible over the Coolidge, Million Dollar Point and reef drop-offs.

Spotted Eagle Ray
Destination note
Possible over sandy channels and reef edges around Aore and outer Santo sites, often moving alone or in small groups.

dugong
Destination note
Vanuatu tourism material mentions dugongs around Santo, but sightings are uncommon and tied to quiet seagrass areas rather than wreck dives.

Blacktip Reef Shark
Destination note
Juveniles and adults may appear around shallow reef flats and lagoon edges on non-wreck days.

Bluespotted Ribbontail Ray
Destination note
Common Indo-Pacific lagoon ray; divers may find it tucked under coral shelves on Santo’s shallow reef dives.

dogtooth tuna
Destination note
Research notes mention dogtooth tuna; best chances are blue-water edges of outer Santo reefs.

humphead wrasse
Destination note
Large adults may appear on healthier outer reefs; sightings are special because regional populations are fishing-sensitive.

red-toothed triggerfish
Destination note
Schools hover in current above Indo-Pacific reef slopes and should be common on Santo’s outer reefs.
Common Coral Trout
Destination note
Expected around coral heads and reef slopes; a common predator in western and south Pacific reefs.
